Creating a safe working environment

Posted 09 Jun 2015 by Nick Hobbs

All successful businesses have a particular interest in ensuring they provide the safest possible work environment for their team members and clients and team members. This in turn enables team members to perform at their best: boosting productivity and profit margins. All team members have a duty and responsibility to adhere to regulations, but also act proactively should they identify any risk.

Assetlink maintains International best practise by ensuring we exceed ISO 45001 Work Health and Safety Management Certification standards to which ongoing improvement is necessary to maintain AS9001 Quality Management Certification.

The following areas of interest are closely monitored:

  • Regular assessment of KPI / Performance Appraisal
  • Through constant, ongoing measurement of performance across teams and individuals, a much greater ability to identify any possible outlet for improvement is gained. Using OHSAS18001 and AS4801 as a starting point, ongoing development of effective OHSWHS policy and objectives combined with strict OHS procedures ensures the best possible outcome for clients and their customers.

  • Training
  • With award winning training comprising extensive practical and theoretical components, we find that by training our staff team member on how to identify risks, and what to do to ensure the problem has been resolved effectively and efficiently.

Assetlink’s Intranet (iLink) contains over 40 courses looking into covering looking into a range of safety related topics from how to operate specific machinery, to broad risk minimisation modules, all of which contribute to well rounded understanding of the importance of creating a safe working environment. An online resource of this nature is available to team members wherever they are, and whenever they require access.

  • Documentation
  • Additional to online and practical training, extensive supporting documentation should be maintained to ensure that the most relevant/current best practices are broadcast and distributed to all team members, especially as technology evolves so rapidly.

  • Incident reporting / Management
  • Incident reporting is a great way to keep track of how effective preventative safety measures are. Data can be stored and analysed over time, which in turn provides clarity on strengths and weaknesses. In some instances, seasonality or event-based incidents can rapidly be identified and eradicated.

At one particular Assetlink retail site in NSW, closely monitoring where and when safety was compromised, we were able to address each issue by proactively adjusting operational protocol in order to prevent unsafe practices rather than reacting to the fallout. During rainy periods, operational activities are adjusted accordingly to ensure floors remain safe and dry, while rapid response to leaks and other heavy rain related activities are factored into rosters.

  • Never Negotiate on Safety
  • At Assetlink, we strive to optimise our workplace to ensure the highest possible level of Health and Safety, arming our teams with tools to minimise risk of harm.

    • AS9001 Quality Management Certification

To continue to exceed ISO 45001 Work Health and Safety Management Certification, Assetlink strives for continual improvement through ongoing innovation to ensure certification standards are met if not exceeded. Audited biannually by an external organisation The Total Quality Certification Services International also known as TQCSI with certification AS9001 Quality Management Certification to validate we are continually improving.

By creating new and exciting ways to exceed our client’s expectations, remaining in touch with industry trends and staying to touch in developments in technology: we provide a dynamic, safe working environment which benefits our clients and their customers.
